In order to reduce wallet creation abuse, we are adding a process to block “fraudulent” phone numbers from the Bancor Wallet account creation process. This change will go into effect on June 20th.
When there is a new signup on the platform using the SMS method, we first verify the number using a third-party service that evaluates whether the number is a legitimate mobile phone number and not VOIP, DID, a virtual Number, land-line, etc.
In instances when the phone number is ‘suspicious’, the user will be prevented from creating an account with that number.
- We will not use this service to evaluate existing user phone numbers. Thus, this does not affect the sign-in process for existing users anyway.
